Departmental Awards

Kirsten White Corda, graduate student, received a Student Research Award for her work, "NJ Food Stamp Participant Internet Usage: A study to examine the efficacy of using the internet to deliver nutrition education," which was presented at 41st annual meeting of Society for Nutrition Education, in Atlanta, GA, July 2008.

Laura M. Masullo, undergraduate, received the Nutritional Sciences department's Ann S. McChesney Award for Nutrition Education at the Cook College commencement ceremony, May 2008. The award recognizes the career contributions of the late Dr. McChesney, former department faculty member.

Amy Marcinkiewicz, graduate student, received the Adjunct Faculty Professional Development Fund Award, form the Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and Development, New York University, Spring 2008.

Tatiana Toro-Ramos, graduate student, was recognized for delivering one of the Top Three best presentations. Future of Food and Nutrition Graduate Research Conference. Gerald J. and Dorothy R. Friedman School of Nutrition Science and Policy, Tufts University, Boston, MA, March, 2008.

Virginia Quick, graduate student, was awarded a Kappa Omicron Nu Research Fellowship for the 2007-2008 academic year. KON is the national honor society for Family and Consumer Sciences.

Su-Hyoun Chon, graduate student, received a Travel Award from the Graduate School-New Brunswick, Rutgers University, to attend the 2007 FASEB Summer Research Conference on Lipid Droplets in Saxtons River, VT. Su-Hyoun received a poster award for "Metabolic Consequences of Stored Neutral Lipids," and will also receive a Summer 2008 Travel Award.

Dr. Carol Byrd-Bredbenner, professor and extension specialist, received the American Dietetic Association's Anita Owen Award for Innovative Nutrition Education Programs for the Public for "Know Before You Serve" and "Ask Before You Eat" - Food Allergy Awareness Education for Food Service Operations and the General Public in New Jersey", at the fall 2007 Food and Nutrition Exposition, Philadelphia, PA.

Mousumi Bose, graduate student, received a Fall 2007 Travel Award for participation in the scientific poster session at the Fourth International Scientific Symposium on Tea & Human Health, Washington, DC. Mousumi won the 3rd Place Award for her poster entitled "The major green tea polyphenol, (-)-epigallocatechin-3-gallate, inhibits obesity, metabolic syndrome, and fatty liver disease in high-fat fed mice."
